Prepping for Crown Tourney
With Crown Tourney about 3 weekends from now, I am getting together my garb for it. For those of you who are wondering "What the heck is Crown Tourney?!", it is a bi-annual event to determine the next King and Queen of the East Kingdom of the SCA. My boyfriend Jamie has fought in 2 crown events already, so this will be his 3rd. The last fall crown he fought in the weather was dismal. VERY cold and rainy. I made the mistake of wearing my newly made party cotehardie and ended up freezing my butt off and having to wear Jamie's 50 lb wool cloak to stay warm and dry.
That will not happen this year! I plan on going viking this year. I have a red linen apron dress already made, just have to finish putting the straps on and then appliqueing on the gripping stag and horse (the stag and horse are part of Jamie's SCA heraldry) (appliqueing is when you take a piece of fabric and sew it on top of a bigger piece of fabric to form pictures or patterns). I will also have my own cloak I made last winter out of an old wool army blanket and that I lined with green fleece to help keep stay warm, and my trusty fox pelt.
